ABOUT

I’m a mixed media artist living under the Carolina blue skies just north of Charlotte, NC. My painting journey halted in high school when I didn’t make the grade in art class, but my creativity never faltered. I just stuck to crafts after that.

Inspired by a friend during a random art night together, the magic of painting took hold once again in 2019. It became a place of healing and calm amidst the chaos of life. Eventually, I took art classes and began to feel confident enough to call myself an artist.

I’m currently represented at Art House Charlotte in Charlotte, NC.

ARTIST STATEMENT

I paint loose florals with acrylic paint and mixed media in an intuitive process that allows previous marks to guide future ones. It’s unpredictable and allows emotions to flow through the process.

Depth is built through layers of mark-making, brush strokes, and glazes. I love seeing early marks peeking through in the final piece of art. It reminds me of the connection we have to each other and to nature.

I stick to muted, neutral colors primarily because I find them grounding, which allows the wild and expressive marks to contrast with the calm.

The juxtapositions found in life and nature fascinate me because of how they overlap. Nature has seasons; we live through similar seasons. Think about more things that overlap: stormy and calm, wild and tame, smooth and textured, warm and cool.

I want to translate that into my paintings. The flowers aren’t specific types, but instead hold the space to explore the ideas of contrast and growth in all seasons.

My paintings focus on the strength we gain and the constant rediscovery of ourselves as we live life.

We may have to live in this messy, chaotic world, but I choose to find beauty in the imperfection.
