Discover your creative flow with intuitive grid paintings

When you’re craving a creative outlet but aren’t sure where to begin, take out your sketchbook and try a mini meditation aka grid painting. I play with these all the time because they’re relaxing and can unlock my intuitive flow. They become pretty addictive because they’re so nourishing to the creative soul.

Sometimes all you need to get moving on the journey of creating is a clear path. That means having supplies ready and eliminating any pesky excuses like not having enough time, thinking you aren’t creative or not knowing where to start.

The chaos that life brings increases decision fatigue so this grid painting sketchbook exercise eliminates the decision making that comes with picking colors. All we’re using is black and white.

Grid painting is all about intuition. Make a mark and see where it leads. I had no plan for the paintings in this video, it’s all about play and exploration. Your sketchbook is your safe space, where you can follow your curiosity and release your stress.

Unique marks will begin to appear and repeat, which means you probably like doing them. I find myself creating scribbles, circles, and swirls all the time. You may notice geometric shapes, straight lines, or brushy marks when you try it.
