Earthy Watercolor Swatching To Nourish the Soul

One of my favorite Daniel Smith colors of all time is Quinacridone Burnt Orange. It’s this gorgeous rusty orange and I’m always curious about what it will do when I mix it with other colors. Today, I’m going to mix it up into the 10 colors I’ve swatched previously to see what happens. One of the best parts about color mixing is the surprises, I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of it. I’m adding these swatches to the page with the colors mixed with buff titanium from last week.

I’ve already mentioned that color swatching is an amazing way to be present and practice creative mindfulness. The colors you choose to swatch can also make a difference. I find earthy colors like I mixed today give me a feeling of being grounded. When I paint with brighter yellows and oranges, I notice it can boost my mood. Blues can feel calming and secure. What are your favorite colors? Have you ever thought about how they make you feel?
