Swatching Watercolors With 10 of My Favorite Daniel Smith Colors
Swatching colors is like taking that first bite of creamy butter pecan ice cream after a long day full of stress. A deep breath full of satisfaction without the calories.
Over the next 5 weeks, I’m going to show you some of my favorite watercolors made by Daniel Smith. I want to show you how beautiful they are on their own, mix them into some gorgeous earthy pastels, and then mix them with my all-time favorite color.
In the video, I swatch eight of the Daniel Smith Primatek colors and two of the Luminescent colors. These colors add interesting effects that would be difficult to replicate. The Primatek colors are made with minerals, giving them amazing granulation and sometimes a bit of shimmer.
They’re simply beautiful.
I decided to swatch them as gradient blocks to help you see how they look from the darkest shade to the lightest.
Color is endlessly fascinating to me. Both because of what you can do with a limited selection of colors, but also because playing with it is so relaxing.
Swatching paint colors is one way to add in a creative mindfulness practice to your daily routine. Use a sketchbook and create squares of color. Before you know it, you’ll have an entire color book to reference when you feel a bit stuck.
